{Sneek Peak} "Little Angel"

My oldest and dearest girlfriend's baby shower is this weekend, and I am more than excited that she asked me to help with some of the decorating. Nicole has a fabulous group of women collaborating to help make her shower an amazing day, and I'm honored to be a part of it!

My job is to style a dessert table for the new mommy-to-be. This particular assignment was somewhat of a challenge for me because Nicole has a unique flare, which is very different from what I am naturally drawn to {she's my fun-loving, city-girl-living, W-magazine-working girlfriend with a style to match!}.

Nicole requested the following: gray, white, a touch of silver, and angels. Check out the little sneak peak photo of some of the goods I created for N's big day {tip cards, guess the baby boy's name cards, and cupcake toppers}. The additional image is courtesy of IKEA, which is where I purchased some other fabulous ANGEL accents for Nicole! The full {party styling} post on how I accomplishd my task is COMING SOON!

{Parties} Becky's Baby Sprinkle

Last night couldn't have been a more perfect night for my sister's sprinkle. The weather was beautiful and all the details that I've been working on for the last few weeks came together so nicely. As with most parties, the invitation is the building block from which all the details are inspired.

Inspired by Pottery Barn bedding I saw in the catalog, I used the color palette of light pink, dark pink, and turquoise. Becky doesn't know the sex of the baby so I had to incorporate both pink and blue. As you'll notice, I definitely leaned more toward the pink end of the color spectrum....haha. I'm thinking girl on this one! And since the sprinkle was being held in July, I thought nothing screamed summer more than ice cream, hence all of the ice cream details.

Speaking of details...I think they make an ordinary event spectacular! The popcorn tower I made was one of my favorite details of the night. I used different scrapbook papers to create cones that held the caramel corn, and I used a tiered stand I had to create the "tower."

Another one of my favorite details was the ice cream cone shaped crab dip. I can't even take credit for this one...my hubby made it! He's really great in the kitchen and suggested using an ice cream cone cookie cutter I had to create the cream cheese molds for the dip. Then he used a toothpick to make lines to resemble a cone.

I used different fabrics from Joannes to create the table covers throughout the outdoor space. Instead of buying actual table covers, the fabric was a simple and inexpensive fix, and I was able to stay in keeping with the colors of the sprinkle. I also made bunting (the flag banner) to drap across the front of the table. I tied it together with cute ribbon, and used the same scrapbook papers from the popcorn cones to make the enlarged letters.

One table held the drinks. I served raspberry iced tea and....

...a pitcher of "materni"tinis! I love creating a signature cocktail for an event, and I thought the name of this martini was very fitting for the occassion :)

I wanted Becky to have something in writing from the guests that she could reflect on in the future. So, I made a mini tree out of branches from my backyard and arranged them in a galvanized bucket I had. I asked each guest to write Becky a blessing on the tags I made and then hang them on the tree.

While in Annapolis a few weeks ago, I was drawn to a storefront with these beautiful crey paper flowers. I tried to recreate them using tissue paper and floral tape and wire from Joannes. I made three of them (it took FOREVER...lol), put them in a clear glass vase and filled the vase with turquoise beads.

I really wanted to create a special (and comfy) seat for my sister while she opened her gifts. I used my favorite chair from my craft room and added a little side table from my guest room to get the look I was going for. The chair was not only a comfortable place for a mommy-to-be to sit, but the turquoise and white fabric was perfect! On the table next to the chair, I put the invitation, a candle, and an ultrasound pic of Baby H. that I had enlarged and framed.

I used card tables and patio seating for the guests. To jazz up the tables, I added more fabric tablecovers from Joannes and some simple flower arrangements. I purchased a few bunches of flowers from Shoprite, arranged myself in jars, added some ribbon, and voila!

The dessert table was next to the drink table, and was filled with yummy sweetness! I made marshmallow pops, the caramel popcorn tower, and set up the toppings for the ice cream bar.

My cousin's wife, Kelly, made a gorgeous diaper cake for my sister. It was so pretty, I had to display it on the dessert table! She made it look so adorable by adding pretty ribbon (all in my color scheme) and even added a handmade ice cream cone made from some of the papers I used on the invitation. LOVE IT! I think she should go into business...don't you?!?!

Both tables together...

The entire outdoor space...

A "sprinkle" is a mini baby shower and that's what inspired the ice cream sundae bar. Using ice cream cups from a local ice cream parlor, I added tags to the front and served to my guests. I pre-scooped the ice cream and added the spoons prior to the start of the party...so much easier for the hostess!

My mother-in-law lent me these adorable pale pink goblets for my sundae toppings. I love them!

I used my scrapbook paper once again to make mini flags for some of the appetizers and the pickles.

In addition, I made food tags for everything served.

Apps are my fav! I could just eat appetizers and dessert every night :)

I made poms to hang above my island where I served the food.

I also used some poms on top of vases on my buffet table, and used this space for my party favors. They sat on a cupcake stand that I adorned with ribbon.

I planned on making the cookies myself, but I ran short on time. I guess that's what bakeries are for! So, I asked Ritz Bakery to make me big round sugar cookies with pink and turquoise icing with white polka dots. I bought clear celophane bags and made little favor tags to package them.

Some of the girls cousins and aunts with Becky.

Bec getting ready to open some presents...

The sweet little handmade card my sister-in-law, Jane, made. How cute!

I saw this sparkly ice cream cone ornament in a Christmas Shop in Stone Harbor. I thought it would be a cute keepsake for my sister.

I can't forget about my boyfriend, Jack! He's going to a big brother and that's pretty special! I ordered him a "big brother" tee from my fav, Etsy. He's going to be so cute wearing this on his trip to the hospital to meet his new sister or brother :)

Speaking of Etsy...I ordered some pink flower clips for a wedding I went to last summer, and I thought they would be perfect for the sprinkle. Like I've said a million times before, I heart details!

Sisters...

Lastly, I made some matching thank you cards for my sister's gift basket. Couldn't resist using the ice cream cones one last time!

All in all, it was a great time of celebration over a new little person about to enter our family. I love being an aunt and can't wait to meet Miles or Mia!

Neutral Baby Shower Invitations

These are the baby shower invitations I created for my friend Patty's March baby shower. She is expecting a little boy or girl (it's a surprise!) in mid-May. I used a combo of simple dots and stripes along with the neutral colors pale yellow, sage green, and chocolate brown on her invitation; these colors and patterns are similar to the bedding for her nursery. The invites were paired with a chocolate brown envelope to complete the look.

My Baby Shower!

My baby shower was today at the Painted Cottage in Collingswood. It was given by my mom and mother-in-law, and everything was so nice! Thank you Mom and Carol - I truely loved every minute of it!

It wasn't a surprise shower because I am always nervous being the center of attention and need to prepare myself a little bit beforehand. Besides, you should never surprise a pregnant woman....it's just not fair! In any case, I had a great time being surrounded by all my family and friends who love me and my husband and our little guy who is getting ready to join the world soon!

While in the initial planning stages of the shower, I asked my mom if I could make my own invitations and all the related goods for the day. At first she wasn't crazy about the idea of the guest of honor making her own invitations; however, she knows I have a passion for this and already had lots of ideas, so she let me proceed.

I was pleased with the way the invitations and all party details turned out EXCEPT for the colors. I printed the pieces at different times, and the colors came out completely different each time. The nerve! I am probably the only one that notices such things, but it still bugs me. I used a baby blue color on everything, and the invitation, thank you card, bookmarks, and cupcake toppers came out beautifully; however, the other pieces came out a teal color. It's a pretty color but not the baby blue color I wanted it to be. Anyhow....there are more important things in life I suppose....not the end of the world!

Check out the details below:

{My invitation: I love the white shimmery paper against the cool blue - perfect for a wintery January shower. The guests were also asked to wear a "touch" of blue and everyone looked so cute today with their blue touches!}

{I made wrap-around labels to address the outside of the envelopes and to compliment the invitation.}

{Thank you cards - I've got to get working on these now!}

{The cupcake toppers I made for the cupcakes. They are a little tough to see but each one says something different: Kate's Baby Shower, It's a Boy, Due February 2010, and Snakes and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails. These were placed in each of the cupcakes.}

{The favors were booksmarks with a bible verse - Psalm 139: 13-14. I punched a hole in each and added a matching blue ribbon. These were placed at every guest's seat.}

{I made mini menus for each table. These were 3.5 x 5 tented cards and absolutely adorable because they were so cute and tiny. I also added three small crystals to each one for a little bling. I figured my baby boy needs to know that his momma likes a little sparkle!}
**This is where the color of the products start to change to teal because they was in the second batch of goods that were printed.....GRRRR.**

{These are the candy jars I made. I have tons of glass hurricanes and apothocary jars that I use around my house during the different seasons and fill with decorations and what not. They were perfect to fill with candy for the shower. My mom and I also found some silver scoops at Walmart that I added ribbon to as well. The jars were filled with Hershey kisses, chocolate covered pretzels, M & Ms, and white hearts - YUM!}

{I found little white bags at Michaels that I made tags for that said Little Boys are so Sweet. These were placed by the candy jars for guests to fill with treats.}

{A sign I made to sit next to the candy jars and bags. Crystals were added to adorn the chandelier.}

{I made this tree as a decoration by using real tree branches, crystals, and enlarged birds that I had printed and cut out by hand. I used Christmas ornament hooks to hang the crystals from the tree, and I attached white ribbon to each bird and then hung on the tree.}

{Of course I had to add a crystal on each bird to serve as the eye.}

{I used one of my square glass jars and a styrofoam "thing" from Joanne's Fabric Store to hold the branches in place. I then wrapped the base in white tissue paper and added blue stones from Target to fill in the top of the jar.}

{The sweets table at my shower with the cupcakes and candy.}

{Pictures of my husband and I as babies in small white frames were also placed on the sweets table.}

{My favorite girls and I! - my mom, me, and my sister. Love them!}
